If you don’t have any sewing experience at all, making a wedding gown might not be the ideal project for a complete beginner. But if you have sewn various dresses before and all you can think of when you see a bridal gown is “I could make” that, then why not give it a go?

Choosing Fabrics for your Bridal Gown
Fabrics that are popular choice when it comes to making bridal gowns are: Chiffon, Crepe, Dupion, Lace, Noile, Organza, Satin, Shantung, Taffeta, Tulle, and Jacquard. You can view a selection of bridal fabrics on Minerva Crafts website. Their product descriptions are easy to understand even for amateur seamstresses. Here are a few examples:
“Taffeta is a crisp, noisy fabric that rustles when you walk. It is used widely for full skirts, evening wear and party dresses”
“Polyester crepe fabric has a soft smooth finish and has a lovely soft drape. It is made of 100 percent polyester fibres so this fabric will not easily crease and it is machine washable and easy care and at a great price too.”
“Our faux silk fabric has the most wonderful texture and surface finish. It is made from polyester fibres but it still has the luxurious look of pure silk. On one side you have a matte, textured finished and on the reverse you have a shiny satin finish which also has this subtle texture.”
Finishing Touches
Beautiful lace and quality embellishments can transform a simple gown to a truly special designer garment. (… you being the designer, of course).
You could purchase segments of lace, lace motives or individual crystal beads, pearls and diamantes.
And then there are diamante buckles, beautiful sashes, satin bows, ribbon flowers, filigree ornaments, satin or diamante buttons and many different types of fabric flowers.
These lace decorations and beads could be white or ivory or could be coloured. For example, silver beads or off-white lace can give a bridal gown a vintage feel.
A Bespoke Headpiece to complete the Look.

You are so talented!! The fact that you can sew a wedding dress is amazing. I am definitely not talented in that area but I think it is so cool because someone can have a custom made dress!!
Wow these are really beautiful patterns. Sharing with my girl, she might find it interesting 😍
A lot of those patterns are really lovely! If I knew how to sew properly I probably would have made my own dress, everything we did we very non-traditional.
what a great collection! bridal dresses are always fun to look at!
There are so many lovely designs for bridal gown available in stores. but when we custom make our own, that will give pride and satisfaction. Lovely post.

What gorgeous designs!!! I always wanted to learn how to sew. Maybe I’ll can start learning and make some great wedding dresses for myself. Who even needs a weeding to wear a wedding dress? Am i right?
I love the idea of someone making their own wedding dress! Some of those patterns were much better than I would have ever imagined!
I know nothing about sewing but I really like the patterns.
So impressive! I especially love that you shared the three fabrics. Faux silk is my pick.
They are all pretty to me and they are bringing back memories of my own wedding day.
The finishing touches make this such a nice spring look!
I really need to get a sewing machine. This sounds like so much fun. Walking down the aisle in a custom dress for me by me.
Making clothing is an amazing skill that I think should be pushed onto the wedding industry more. I like the idea of DIY gowns.
Love these dresses! If I would be good at sewing, I’d definitely give some of these a try!
